Malnourished newborn dies, parents facing child abusePosted: Updated:
TUCSON - A Tucson couple is behind bars accused of starving their newborn to death.
Police say six-week-old Kimberly Sullivan weighed just five pounds when she died. She was two pounds heavier at birth.
Investigators found the baby Saturday at her parents' apartment. She was reportedly badly malnourished and emaciated.
Victor Stephens was moving out of the apartment next door and says he saw the father trying to save the baby's life. "I saw and heard 'The baby's not breathing, the baby's not breathing.' I really didn't know what was going on and I saw the father trying to give the baby mouth-to-mouth."
The newborn's parents, Scott and Terri Sullivan, are being held in the Pima County Jail on child abuse charges.
