`Same old Cardinals' staggering toward playoffs, losing season possiblePosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Nobody gets the day off for the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday, not with the sorry way this team is playing down the stretch.
The Cardinals are staggering toward the playoffs and with a loss to Seattle this weekend will finish the regular season 8-8, the same record they had last year.
The difference is they are champions of the worst division in the NFL, so they get to play a first-round playoff game at home, probably against Atlanta or Carolina.
Don't look now, but those early-season darlings of Arizona are staring down the barrel of an 8-9 season.
The Cardinals have lost four of five.
In their last two games -- at home against Minnesota and at New England -- they have been outscored 82-21.
It's the kind of nosedive that's painfully familiar to fans of a Cardinals franchise that has one winning season since 1984.
