Sheriff: Hostages tortured inside alleged Avondale drop housePosted: Updated:
AVONDALE -- Sheriff deputies and SWAT were called to an alleged drop house in Avondale Thursday night.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement received a tip from a caller in Tennessee about the house.
Authorities say that 30 people were taken into custody, 25 are believed to have been hostages, illegal immigrants or kidnapping victims.
The other five are suspected human smugglers.
Authorities say that a tazer found in the house was allegedly used to torture the hostages while they called family members begging for help.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio used the bust as an example of why his enforcement of illegal immigration laws is so important.
