PRESCOTT -- On Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at approximately 7:15 a.m., Prescott Police arrested Raymond G. Parenteau, age 42, at his Prescott Valley home. Mr. Parenteau was taken into custody after a year long investigation revealed he had defrauded the Prescott Unified School District of almost $20,000.
Mr. Parenteau had contracted with the school district for $55 an hour to home school his own 12-year-old autistic son. Mr. Parenteau hired a certified special education instructor to work with the child and paid her $25 an hour. Mr. Parenteau kept the additional $30 an hour for himself. Mr. Parenteau also billed for hours not used for teaching his son and created false invoices.
Mr. Parenteau was booked into Yavapai County Jail on felony Fraudulent Schemes and Forgery.
