The case has been deemed a homicide by detectives. Investigators determined that the victim, Zachary Rowe, was shot to death prior to the house fire. While the fire remains under investigation, detectives believe it was likely arson.
CHANDLER -- Fire officials have confirmed that one man was killed in an early morning house fire in Chandler.
Crews were called out the home near Alma School and Ray roads at about 6:30 a.m.
Police have identified the victim as Zachary B. Rowe, a 25-year-old pre-law student at Arizona State University.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but crews on the scene said there was heavy smoke when they arrived on the scene.
