Suspect carjacks two vehicles with women and children inside

GLENDALE - A suspect allegedly carjacked two different vehicles within a short amount of time and remains outstanding.

Police tell 3TV a man attempted to steal a woman's vehicle outside a Fry's located at 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home. While attempted to take the vehicle, the suspect backed into a minivan, abandoned the car and proceeded to flee on foot.

Glendale Police Sgt. Cunningham says the man ran across Bethany Home Road into a residential neighborhood where he carjacked a second vehicle with two women and two kids inside.

Sgt. Cunningham tells 3TV one woman and one child were able to escape but the other woman and child remained in the vehicle until the suspect let them off after traveling several blocks.

The suspect reportedly traveled a few more blocks before abandoning the second vehicle and continued fleeing on foot.

The man remains at large. The victims tell police the suspect had a gun.

A nearby school was temporarily put on lockdown.
