Pinal and state officials report swine flu deathPosted: Updated:
FLORENCE -- Pinal County and Arizona public health officials say a 7-year-old boy who died within the past week was positive for the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu.
The child had underlying health conditions and was being treated at a local hospital at the time of his death.
Health officials said it's the tenth death related to the H1N1 virus in Arizona and the third death involving a resident of Pinal County.
The Arizona Department of Health Services said the total number of confirmed cases in Arizona is 729 as of June 24.
The symptoms of swine flu are similar to other forms of influenza and can include a sore throat, coughing, fever, chills, fatigue or head and body aches.
Diarrhea and vomiting may also occur.
