Vet accused of punching chihuahua in Sun City not guiltyPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A jury has found a Sun City veterinarian not guilty after he was accused of punching a Chihuahua in the head.
The jury of eight people returned the not guilty verdict Tuesday on one felony count of animal abuse and one count of theft against Dr. Joshua Winston.
The theft count stemmed from an allegation that Winston pocketed $83 for a vaccination shot he never gave.
Jurors received the case following closing arguments Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court.
After hearing the verdict, Winston broke down crying.
Winston was arrested June 11, 2007, after two vet technicians reported that he punched the tiny dog, causing an eye injury. Winston maintained he's never hurt any animal.
