Kerry Martin died last week after complications from childbirth. The medical examiner told 3TV that a benign tumor on Kerry Martin's liver -- a hepatic adenoma -- ruptured.
His newborn son Austin died three days later.
Martin says the events that led to his wife's death are rare and he's thankful for the brief time he had with his son.
Martin has established a charitable foundation in memory of his wife and son.
"The foundation will promote the education and well being of children, mothers and families," Martin said.
Donations to the Martin Family Charitable Foundation can be made at any Chase Bank or WaMu branch nationwide.
