Illegal immigrants may fear upcoming census

Campaign to build trust

PHOENIX -- State census officials fear millions of people who are here illegally will be afraid to be counted in the upcoming survey so they're launching a campaign to build trust with undocumented immigrants.

But not everyone is happy about it.

Some immigrant advocates are threatening to tell undocumented immigrants to boycott the census in retaliation for immigration crackdowns.

The state could lose millions of dollars in federal funding for roads, schools and other projects if a large number of people are missed.
