Husband dies, wife critical after motorcycle collides with mail truck

CHANDLER - The following is a press release from the Chandler Police Department:

On Monday, November 17, 2008, at 11:00 AM, Chandler police responded to the intersection of Ocotillo Road and Arizona Ave in regard to a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and United States Postal Service (USPS) truck.

The seventy-year old male driver and passenger on the motorcycle were not wearing helmets.

The Chandler couple was traveling South bound on Arizona Ave in the middle lane and the USPS truck was in the intersection waiting to make a left turn onto West bound Ocotillo Road.When the USPS truck turned left, the motorcycle collided with the truck.

Currently, the collision is under investigation.

The intersection is equipped with a photo red light camera, which will be a key part of the investigation.The couple was flown to an area hospital where the husband was pronounced dead.His wife remains in critical condition.

The name of the deceased and his wife will not be released until family has been notified.The diver of the USPS vehicle was not injured.
