Brewer calls for Arizona university improvementsPosted: Updated:
TUCSON -- Gov. Jan Brewer says more needs to be done to make state university education affordable and predictable.
Brewer told the Arizona Board of Regents on Thursday that she will spread stimulus money to the three state universities over a two-year period to temporarily help hold down tuition and fee increases. She didn't provide details.
She also said the universities must take bold action to prepare for continued tight state budgets, especially when the stimulus money is gone.
She called for steps to improve graduation rates, ensure that students get the classes they need and have choices for types of degrees and institutions and their locations.
Brewer also said it's too expensive to have almost all undergraduates in research-level universities.
