Suspect in shooting on San Tan Freeway on the loosePosted: Updated:
CHANDLER -- The San Tan Freeway was back open in time for the morning rush hour after an overnight in the southeast Valley that has left investigators with more questions than answers.
It happened at about 2 a.m. on the eastbound Loop 202 at Gilbert Road, according to the Department of Public Safety.
A man who was apparently having some car trouble pulled off to the side of the freeway at the Gilbert Road exit.
He said another car pulled up beside him and somebody inside opened fire.
The man, whose name has not been released, was hit in the leg.
Investigators said the despite his injuries, the man managed to make it up the on ramp to a restaurant where he called 911.
The man was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
The area was closed for about three hours while DPS officers investigated.
At this point investigators don't have any information about the suspect.
