Phoenix police investigating armored car robberyPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Phoenix police are investigating an armored car robbery in the area of Central Avenue and Baseline Road.
Two men armed with an AK-47 assault rifle stole cash from an armored truck at an Arizona Federal Credit Union in Phoenix on Monday morning.
Police said the suspects walked up to the truck security guards around 9 a.m.
The guards were apparently loading an ATM when the suspects approached, holding the AK-47 and a hand gun.
Police said the guards gave the suspects the money they demanded.
The suspects fled the scene in a white sedan. They got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A local business owner apparently followed the men to another nearby shopping center where the suspects left their car.
Police searched the area but couldn't find either of the men. An investigation is under way.
