Police arrest oxycontin robbery suspectPosted: Updated:
CHANDLER - The following is a press release from the Chandler Police Department:
On September 30, 2008 at approximately 5:56 pm, a male suspect entered the CVS at 2005 N. Dobson Rd. and approached the pharmacy.
While at the pharmacy, the suspect gave the employee a letter indicating he was armed and demanding they turn over all of their Oxycontin.
The suspect was dressed in dark clothing, had a hood pulled over his head, and had painted his face black.Pharmacy employees complied and gathered the drugs.At the same time, another employee in the store called to report an armed robbery in progress.
The suspect was followed out of the store and a witness was able to obtain a license plate on thesuspect vehicle. While patrol officers worked the scene, detectives from the Chandler Police Department's Criminal Apprehension Unit (CAU) were sent to the vehicle's registered owner residence in Tempe.
At approximately 7:13 pm, 28 year-old Asif Arab was taken into custody at his home in the 9600 block of South Ash in Tempe.
Asif Arab was booked into jail on one count of Armed Robbery. It is not believed that Arab is connected to any other robberies. No one was injured in this incident. This case was turned over to Robbery Detectives. A booking photo of Arab is attached.
