PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks have named A.J. Hinch the new manager of the team.

The Diamondbacks new manager was the Director of Player Development and a former major leaguer, who played eight seasons in the majors.

He was on four different teams including the Oakland A's.

The Stanford grad retired from baseball in 2005 and was manager of the Diamondbacks minor league operations in 2006 before being named to Director of Player Development.

Hinch replaces former Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin who was let go on Thursday after the team started the season 12-17.
