Slumped Sun Devils head for Oregon StatePosted: Updated:
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Arizona State brings a five-game losing streak to Oregon State tonight.
With the forecast calling for showers and temperatures in the 40s, quarterback Rudy Carpenter seemed more concerned with the upcoming conditions than whether it's possible for Arizona State to win out and make it to a bowl game.
If the Sun Devils lose to the Beavers, they would match the school record for consecutive losses -- six, set in 1929. The 1929 team scored a total of 13 points and finished 0-6, losing home-and-home games to Northern Arizona.
Arizona State needs to win four of their last five to qualify for even a minor bowl berth. After the Beavers, the Sun Devils play Washington and Washington State, who are a combined 1-14 and have yet to defeat a major-college opponent. ASU finishes against UCLA at home and at Arizona.
