PRESCOTT - The following is a press release from the Prescott Police Department:
On June 15, 2009 at about 9:40 P.M. Prescott Police was sent to Highway 89 north of Willow Creek in reference to a motor vehicle accident.Prescott resident, Sarah Hubbird, 22, was northbound on Highway 89 in a 2002 Ford Focus when another vehicle, also northbound on Highway 89, rear-ended the vehicle driven by Hubbird causing extensive damage to Hubbird's vehicle.The other vehicle fled the scene northbound on Highway 89.A description was broadcasted to Chino Valley Police Department who later saw and stopped the vehicle.That driver was identified as Chino Valley resident, Kenneth Whatley, 42.
Further investigation revealed that prior to this accident, Whatley was leaving the Pinon Pines bar when he struck the building and then left northbound on Highway 89 when this accident occurred.After being stopped by Chino Valley Police, it was determined that Whatley was intoxicated and was processed for Aggravated DUI.Whatley was transported to the Camp Verde jail where he was booked for Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage, Endangerment, and Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, Aggravated DUI; all of which are felonies in addition to failing to have a required interlock device.
Hubbird was transported to YRMC where she was treated and released.
