DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was sentenced Monday to supervised probation in Maricopa County Superior Court.
Authorities say Simmons took a meal from a serving tray and became upset when told he couldn't have it. Simmons pleaded guilty in May to attempted aggravated assault in the incident.
The incident occurred as Simmons was serving a sentence after pleading guilty to felony charges of theft, drug possession and a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.
Simmons will be allowed to serve his probation and undergo drug counseling in Florida, where he plans to return.
He says says he is ready to continue work on a new CD.
