New data: 5 cops, 1 firefighter used steroids since random testing

Random testing began in 2006

PHOENIX - New figures released Sunday show that since 2006, a total of five Phoenix police officers and one firefighter recruit have tested positive for anabolic steroids.

Two years ago, Phoenix became the first major city to randomly test police officers and firefighters for steroids.

The policy developed because of rising concerns regarding first responders using illegal drugs to get stronger and faster.

Discipline ranges from suspension to job termination.
