RAW: Truck pulled from apartment

The following was related by Phoenix Police Department Vehicular Crimes Unit investigators:

Phoenix Fire Department firefighters and Phoenix Police officers responded to a call of a traffic accident just after 3 A.M. Saturday morning. A 2005 Chevy pickup, driven by 43 year old Bonnie Stiehl with 41 year old Anthony Garcia as a passenger, was westbound on W. Camelback Road.

The pickup truck left the roadway at 4001 W. Camelback Road, sideswiped a tree, and crashed into apartment G16 at that address. This is a lower level one bedroom apartment that sits below ground level.

The front end of the vehicle was hanging over the bed. There were 3 occupants in the bedroom at the time of the accident and at least one person was actually in the bed.

According to officers at the scene, the apartment occupants miraculously sustained only minor bumps and bruises and none of them were hospitalized.

Tragically, both occupants of the vehicle died. Investigators suspect alcohol was involved based on witness statements.
