Sheriff's posse member in serious crash on I-17

ANTHEM - A sheriff's posse member was involved in a car crash on Interstate 17 near Anthem Way.

Rescue crews received the call about the collision at about 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

A spokesperson from the Department of Public Safety says an MCSO patrol car was stationary and had possibly been rear-ended by a minivan. The posse member, Jimmy Van Allen, 71, was taken to the hospital in serious condition but with non-life threatening injuries. He has been with the sheriff's department for at least 17 years.

Van Allen was parked on the side of the road when he was rear-ended underneath the Daisy Mountain overpass.

Both cars involved in the wreck are in shambles.
