Body of diver recovered
SALT RIVER - A 32-year-old is dead after a cliff diving accident in the east Valley along the Salt River.
It took two hours for Maricopa County Sheriff's Office divers to find the man's body Monday night.
His friends tell 3TV the whole thing is a huge mistake. The man walked over to a 40-foot cliff along the river. Sheriff's deputies in a patrol boat saw him up on the cliff and told him not to jump and to back away.
Nevertheless, there were a lot of other people down below in the water egging him on to jump and he jumped hitting his head on the rocks instead of the water.
Daniel Yedica, one of his friends tells 3TV, "Next thing I know I looked up and he was coming downhit rock before water. He was dead before he got to the water. I put my head down."
Friends say he was married with two daughters. This is the second Salt River drowning in two days. Another man died on Sunday as he tried to save his son who fell in the water.
