TEMPE -- A Mesa man was arrested for taking a woman's purse at a Tempe bus stop Sunday morning.

According to the Tempe Police Department, Anthony Joseph Kitchen, 20, sat down between a male and female seated at a bus stop near McClintock Drive and Southern Avenue.

Kitchen interrupted their conversation and began using profane language toward the female.

She attempted to call her boyfriend on her cell phone when Kitchen yelled at her to hang up the phone.

Police say Kitchen physically assaulted the female then tried to knock the phone out of her hand. He grabbed her purse and pulled it from her arm then fled from the bus stop on foot.

During the investigation, Tempe police received a phone call reporting a suspicious male hiding between two vehicles in a driveway in the 1900 block of East Laguna Drive.

Officers responded to the location and saw that the male matched the description provided by the purse-snatching victim.

Kitchen was transported to Tempe City Jail and charged with one count of robbery.
