Search is on for man missing in Tonto Basin area

TONTO BASIN, Ariz. -- The Gila County Sheriff's Office is searching for a person missing in the Tonto Basin area.

Jason William Witherill, 29, is possibly four-wheeling in the Four Peaks area or in the area on the east side of Roosevelt Lake.

Witherill is described as a white man, 6 feet 2 inches tall and approximately 200 pounds. He has a tattoo on his back between his shoulders that reads "outlaw" and has blue flames tattooed on his wrists.

Sgt. Craig A. Smith said Witherill was last seen at Jakes Corner Store buying some groceries and a Tonto National Forest pass.

He was driving a 1979 Chevy Blazer that is primer black with a white fiberglass top and a red undercarriage. The vehicle is lifted. The Arizona plate on the vehicle is 907XDJ.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter is also checking the area.
