Mall employee facing false threat charges
MESA - A man is in police custody after making a false bomb threat at Fiesta Mall.
The management reported a bomb threat written on the wall in a men's bathroom.
According to the Mesa Police Department, the note indicated the bomb would go off at 7:34 a.m., but mall management opted not to evacuate at that time.
Security and police conducted searches for something suspicious, but nothing was found.
At around 7 a.m. another handwritten note was discovered.
When police became suspicious that the same mall employee, Jose Gonzalez, discovered both threats they looked into the background of the man.
The background check revealed Gonzalez was arrested in February for falsely reporting a robbery.
Gonzalez admitted he wrote the notes because he wanted attention.
He was booked into jail on charges of felony false reporting and threats.
