Avondale man beats girlfriend with baseball bat

AVONDALE -- Avondale police are looking for a suspect who left the scene after beating his girlfriend with a baseball bat Wednesday afternoon.

Avondale police were called to a parking lot of a housing complex in the 1100 block of South Seventh Street about 2:35 p.m. Officers found a woman who was bleeding and bruised as a result of injuries she sustained from being hit with a baseball bat.

According to police, she was attacked at the scene by her boyfriend, Abdul Jabbar Jackson, 33. Police recovered the bat that was allegedly used in the assault.

The victim was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment.

Police searched the area but were unable to find Jackson, who was last seen running westbound through the housing complex. He is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. He was last seen wearing jeans and a light blue shirt.
