1-Year-old critical after nearly drowning in pool

SURPRISE - The following is a press release from the Surprise Police Dept.

On Wednesday, September 03, 2008 at approximately 6:30 pm, Surprise Police and Fire personnel responded to a home on the 15800 block of North 168th Avenue Surprise AZ reference a downing.

Rescue personnel immediately transported the one year old male victim to a local hospital.

Initial reports indicate that the child was in the care of family members at the time of the incident.

Police were advised that the child was out of the family's sight for approximately ten to fifteen minutes, when the child's grandfather located the boy in the backyard swimming pool.

The child was listed in critical condition at the time of this report.

It is unknown as to how the child got into the pool and the incident is currently under investigation.
