He faces between 18 and 24 years when he is sentenced on August 28.

MESA -- The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has charged Travis Cuevas, 18, with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Dep. Lindsey Smith said Cuevas is also being booked on a probation violation warrant.

MESA -- Two boys who were killed in an accident Friday night have been identified as Nolan Smith, 6, and Frank Smith V, aka C.J., 11.

2 teens detained

The boys were riding in a Saturn with their parents, Traci and Frank Smith IV, and a family friend, Mary Guitierrez at Elliot and Sossaman roads.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, a Nissan pickup failed to stop at the four-way intersection and hit the sedan at a high rate of speed.

MCSO confirms that alcohol and speed were factors in the accident.

The boys' uncle said the family was on their way home from a ballgame when the accident happened.

Traci Smith, who was driving the Saturn, was flown to a local hospital in serious condition.

The father, who was in the front passenger seat, had a severe injury to his right eye and was transported to a local hospital.

Guitierrez was a rear passenger and suffered serious internal injuries. She was taken to a Valley hospital.

The sheriff's office confirms that the two boys were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's detectives have taken DNA samples of both suspects, as well as complete analysis of their vehicle, to find out who was driving the truck.

A fund has been set up to help the family. Donations for Traci and Frank Smith are being accepted at any Wells Fargo Bank. The account number is 2733099838.

MESA -- Two teens are in police custody for allegedly killing two young boys and critically injuring their mother in a hit-and-run.

Maricopa County sheriff's deputies say Travis Cuevas, 18, and a 17-year old were arrested after they ran a stop sign and slammed into a family's car near Elliot and Sossaman on Friday night.

Sheriff's deputies say that after the wreck the two suspects took off running so a helicopter was called out to track them down. At this point investigators say alcohol was a factor.

M.A.D.D. spokesperson Ericka Espino tells 3TV, "We're heartbroken at the fact that some innocent lives had to be lost because of a choice that people made to drink and drive."

A friend of the family tells 3TV the two young boys ages 6 and 11 were pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say they are trying to figure out which teen, the 18 or 17-year-old, was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
