Pipe-bomb found in North Scottsdale, bomb squad called

SCOTTSDALE -- A Scottsdale City Water Department employee found a 6-inch-long device that resembled a pipe bomb in North Scottsdale Friday morning.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, the device was found on top of an irrigation valve cover in the wash near Pima and Thunderbird roads.

Police secured the scene and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad from the Mesa Police Department responded and made the device safe.

Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark said no one was injured.

Clark said the initial investigation revealed that the item had all the components of an explosive device.
