Royals' Meche hurls 5-0 shutout over Dbacks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Gil Meche pitched a four-hit shutout and Mark Teahen had three hits and drove in a run as the Kansas City Royals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 last night.

In his second career shutout, Meche threw a career-high 132 pitches in his first complete game since September 2007. He held the Diamondbacks to four singles, while walking one and striking out six. Meche is 3-0 in four career starts against Arizona.

Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch said Meche "pretty much shoved it down our throat."

Arizona starter Doug Davis left after 5 2-3 innings. He allowed four runs and six hits, walked three and struck out five. Davis is 1-5 in his past nine starts.

D-Backs righthander Max Scherzer starts tonight in his first career appearance against the Royals.
