Sheriff Joe and new Guadalupe mayor find common groundPosted: Updated:
GUADALUPE - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will not pull the plug on county law enforcement in the City of Guadalupe.
This comes after months of contentious negotiation and the ousting of former city mayor Rebecca Jimenez.
On Wednesday Arpaio and new Mayor Frankie Montiel discussed their agreement. Sheriff Joe says, "So regardless of any outside pressures, outside critics, outside politicians, it doesn't matter. Guadalupe is the town that we will stay, and we will keep enforcing all the laws of Guadalupe."
A temporary agreement announced in September stated MCSO would end their patrols in Guadalupe in March but the mayor says their permanent presence is necessary as a matter of public safety.
