Phoenix police officer hit by gang member's SUV recovering - A Phoenix police motorcycle officer is out if intensive care this morning and recovering from injuries sustained when he was hit by an SUV over the weekend.

PHOENIX -- A Phoenix police motorcycle officer is out if intensive care this morning and recovering from injuries sustained when he was hit by an SUV over the weekend.

Officer Justin Wood was on his police motorcycle when Frank Ellis, 27, hit him. It happened Saturday night in the area of Seventh Street and Baseline Road. Police said Ellis, who was behind the wheel of an SUV, was driving erratically just before hitting Wood.

Investigators said Ellis was likely under the influence of drugs. He is also a documented gang member and has a criminal history.

PHOENIX -- A Phoenix police motorcycle officer was hospitalized Saturday night after being hit by a car driven by a suspect that was being pursued by authorities. Police say the officer suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The injured officer's name was not immediately released. Police say the suspect had been seen speeding around a Phoenix neighborhood and was caught after he ran into a fence. The identity of the suspect was not immediately released.
