Suspected illegal immigrants caught after chase ends in desert

MARICOPA -- Nearly a dozen suspected illegal immigrants are in custody after a chase in the far southeast Valley.

Chase ended in desert

According to the Department of Public Safety, officers tried to stop a truck on Interstate 10 near Wild Horse Pass at about 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The driver sped up, getting off and on the freeway before driving into the desert about 15 minutes later.

Officers said that backpacks, bags and other items were thrown at them during the chase.

Once the truck stopped in the desert on the reservation, several people took off on foot. Officers were able to catch up with those people.

A total of 10 suspected illegal immigrants were taken into custody.
