1 Killed when vehicle hits tanker truck on EB I-10Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- As of 4:45 p.m., eastbound Interstate 10 is still closed near Picacho Peak due to a fatal collision involving a tanker truck that occurred Wednesday morning.

According to Bart Graves with the Department of Public Safety, the driver of an SUV traveling westbound lost control and rear-ended a small flatbed truck also traveling westbound.
Both vehicles then lost control and crossed the center median.
Graves said the flatbed truck collided into the rear of a tanker truck that was traveling eastbound. The truck was hauling a tank of propane but did not lose any propane during the collision.
The driver and only occupant of the flatbed truck died at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Graves said the tanker had two occupants, who were not injured. The driver and single occupant of the SUV was not injured either.
Traffic is being diverted to the frontage road.
Heavy-duty equipment is heading to the scene to safely off-load the propane tanker.
DPS urges motorists who must travel through this area to seek an alternate route until the roadway is re-opened.
