UA students pay fee for increased campus safety

TUCSON -- Students attending the University of Arizona are paying a $20 fee this semester for increased campus safety.

Students taking part in a campus survey said they overwhelmingly approve of the fee to make their campus safer.

The survey revealed safety was one of the top five concerns among UA students of all ages.

The campuswide survey asked students if they would approve a fee that went directly to student priorities while asking them to list their top priorities.

UA student body president Tommy Bruce says students said they would support $40 to $65 a semester in security fees.

He added the fee will also cover expansion of the Associated Students of the University of Arizona Safe Ride program.

The $20 per semester fee will rise to $40 per semester in fall 2010.
