TEMPE -- Tempe Police tell 3TV that a power outage affected many traffic lights in Tempe during Thursday's evening commute.

The outage blacked out Tempe from Broadway to Rio Salado north-south, and College to Priest east-west.

Officers directed traffic manually at major intersections while waiting for the power to return.

Up to 6,900 customers were without power. APS says that they lost a feed at a substation, causing the power outage.

Power came back on in the affected area around 6:15pm.
