MESA -- Mesa police are investigating an attempted kidnapping of two women Tuesday night.

Mesa police Sgt. Ed Wessing said two women, ages 18 and 22, were walking westbound on Broadway Road near 90th Street when they saw a Jeep Wrangler drive past them. The vehicle made a U-turn and drove back.

Wessing said the vehicle stopped near the women and the suspect opened the passenger door and yelled at them to get in. The women began walking faster and the suspect got out of the vehicle and walked quickly toward them, yelling at them to get in the vehicle. The women ran away from the suspect and he sped away.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 190 to 220 pounds with dark bushy hair. He was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt and long pants.

He was driving a late 1980s to early 1990s Jeep Wrangler that was red in color with a white or light-colored top. There was a spare tire on the back with a cover with "Jeep" written on it.
