Man steals children's shoes, money from Mesa store

MESA -- A man stole two pairs of children's shoes and an undisclosed amount of money from a Mesa shoe store Wednesday evening.

According to the Mesa Police Department, a man brought two pairs of children's shoes to the check-out counter at the Famous Footwear at Power and McKellips roads in Mesa.

While pretending to pay for the items, the suspect produced a demand note from his wallet, saying that he had a gun and wanted money.

A gun was not produced.

According to Detective Michael Melendez, the clerk gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and he left with the money and shoes in one bag.

The suspect fled on foot.

Police officers checked the area and local businesses but did not find the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 200 pounds with short black hair and a possible fake goatee. He was wearing a green shirt and khaki pants.
