UPDATE: Missing man found laying down in Scottsdale yard

Missing man has Alzheimers


SCOTTSDALE -- A missing man was found a little after 11 p.m. Thursday.

Scottsdale police say John Vowells was located laying down in the front yard of a home in the 8300 block of East Sutton Drive, which is approximately one block away from his home.

A resident on Sutton Drive heard noises coming from the yard and went out to investigate and found Vowells.

Vowells told Scottsdale police that he had been walking around the area throughout the day and was unsure how far he had been. He took refuge throughout the day in various places but could not be specific as to where those places were.

He was transported to a hospital for examination and possible dehydration, but police say he appears to be in good shape for the day he had.


SCOTTSDALE - The following is a press release from the Scottsdale Police Department:

This morning at 9:00 AM John Vowells, 76 yr old W/M, Alzheimer's sufferer, was last seen at his residence in the 8300 block of East Captain Dreyfus. He went out to walk the dog and at about 10:00 AM the dog returned home without him. There was a possible sighting of John in the area of the pedestrian walkway near the Loop 101 and Sweetwater at about 9:30 AM.

John was last seen wearing a grey or white t-shirt and green pajama pants. He has a thin grey beard and grey hair. He wears glasses and has distinctive scarring on his arms and hands from a burn injury about 15 years ago.

John will be on foot and it is unknown if he is wearing flip flops, shoes or is bear foot.
