Steelers' biggest fan headed to ArizonaPosted: Updated:
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers' biggest fan is going on a free vacation to Arizona.
Cole Hughes of Pittsburgh won the grand prize Wednesday in an essay contest that stemmed from a Super Bowl wager between the governors of Pennsylvania and Arizona. The Steelers beat the Cardinals, 27-23.
Hughes' essay on why he loves the Steelers was picked out of more than 1,300 submitted. He wrote how, as a 13-year-old, he insisted his father take the only ticket available to watch the 1972 AFC Championship game.
Hughes wins roundtrip airfare to Phoenix, three days at a resort and other prizes. Four runners-up receive two tickets each to a Steelers game.
The essays were judged by five members of the state police, with Gov. Ed Rendell making the final selections.
