White powder sparks evacuation at Scottsdale StarbucksPosted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE -- The discovery of some suspicious white powder sparked the evacuation of the Starbucks on Scottsdale Road between Carefree Highway and Lone Mountain Road Thursday morning.
According to Sgt. Mark Clark of the Scottsdale Police Department, an employee found the powder after opening a roll of coins.
A hazardous-materials team was called out.
Clark said the business was evacuated as a precaution. It has since re-opened.
Video from NewsChopper 3 showed police and fire crews on the scene.
Firefighters tested the power and determined that it was not hazardous.
No injuries were reported.
It's not clear if this incident is related to the threatening letters containing white powder that were mailed to , including nine here in Phoenix, over the past several days.
