Jose Manuel Salazar, 33, has been indicted on felony charges for the alleged lead-pipe beating of his grandparents.

Salazar is charged with first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

According to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office probable cause statement, a witness to the attack called 911 on July 18, stating that his elderly neighbors were being beaten and he could see that the victims were bleeding from their heads. He also described the attacker.

When Phoenix police officers arrived, they found the male victim lying in a pool of blood and unconscious. The female victim had injuries to her head and body but was conscious.

The woman identified Salazar as the assailant and he was arrested by sheriff's deputies.

The male victim was pronounced brain dead at Good Samaritan Hospital and taken off of life support.
