1-Yr-old nearly drowns in tub while playing with siblingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - A 1-year-old boy is fighting for his life after his mom found him face down in the bathtub.
Firefighters tell 3TV he and his sister somehow crawled into the bathtub and turned on the water.
Police believe his mother was resting. Officers taped off an apartment complex just before noon on Sunday. Firefighters worked to save the 1-year-old baby boy.
He and his 3-year-old sister somehow crawled into a bathtub while their mother was resting.
Phoenix Fire tells 3TV, "The two children were just unattended for a brief moment and they went to the bathroom and there water was turned on and some water was filled in the tub."
Firefighters tell 3TV sometime after the sister ran to her mother saying she couldn't wake up her baby brother. Firefighters say it was no more than 2 inches of water but when they arrived the child had no pulse and was not breathing.
"This is another example of how a drowning incident can occur in any amount of water in any situation so there's no substitute for watching your kids as thorough as you can," a Phoenix Fire spokesperson says.
Investigators believe the child was underwater for only a short amount of time. He is in the hospital in extremely critical condition.
