Interim chief named for Mesa Police Dept. - A 17-year veteran is taking over the Mesa Police Department -- at least for now.
Vicki Myers will serve as the Mesa Police Department's interim chief.
She's done several jobs for the department since arriving from Michigan in 2007. Before moving to Mesa, Myers spent nine years as chief deputy with the Ingham County Sheriff's Office in Mason, Michigan.
Right now, she's the operations commander of the Mesa Police Department.
Gascon's last day in Mesa is July 24. Two weeks ago, he announced that will leave Mesa to head up the San Francisco Police Department. He'll start there on Aug. 1.
Mesa's three deputy chiefs are in the running to replace Gascon. The department is also recruiting nationally.
City Manager Chris Brady says Mesa will recruit a chief using a panel of residents and business owners from various backgrounds, plus community forums, open houses and help from a professional recruiting firm.
