The West Valley facility usually houses about 100 cats. That jumps to 150 or so in the summer when there's a spike of unwanted strays and kittens.

Right now, however, the shelter has nearly 300 cats. The situation has become critical, which means the shelter might have to resort to euthanizing some of those unwanted cats -- something it hasn't done in more than two years.

In order to find homes for as many of the cats as possible, MCAC&C is offering a special. The adoption fee for an adult cat is $34; kittens are $50. If you get a second cat, the adoption fee will be cut in half.
