RAW: Scene where driver struck bicyclist
PHOENIX - A man suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a truck while riding his bicycle.
It happened on Tuesday just after 8 p.m. near the N. Black Canyon Access and W. Union Hills. Police say 29-year-old Mackenzie sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a driver that fled the scene.
The Phoenix Police Vehicular Crimes unit is asking for the public's help in tracking down the suspect. Detectives say Mackenzie was riding his bicycle westbound on the north sidewalk of Unions Hills Drive and was crossing the southbound access road against the light at the time he was hit.
The driver of the alleged car involved did not stop at the scene and continued traveling south until reaching the highway. The truck is described as a white or green late 1990s Ford Ranger or Nissan Frontier pick-up truck. It may have left front-end damage.
Anyone with information is asked to call police or call (480) WITNESS.
