200 square feet of tires go up in flames
MARICOPA - Tires and mulch went up in flames south of the Valley in the town of Maricopa Tuesday evening.
The fire was at farm located at Smith Enke and Murphy Road. It involved a tarp comprised of tire fragments and plastic sheeting covering silage, a corn mixture used to feed cows.
The fire involved approximately 200 square feet of a 2,000-square-foot pile.
The smoke could be seen from much of the Valley. Fire crews managed to control the blaze in about an hour.
Fire investigators said that the fire was accidental and caused from an agricultural burn near the pile that blew onto a tarp cover.
