Police: Son punches 92 year-old father, leaves him on I-17Posted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF -- The following is a press release from the Flagstaff Police Department:
Flagstaff Police Department officers responded to Safeway on Plaza Way to speak with a man who was stating he needed to find his father.
Jonathon Ray Begay was very intoxicated while speaking with officers and told them he thought his father was in the area of interstate 17 and Kachina Blvd. Officers on the scene contacted the Department of Public Safety and advised them of the incident.
DPS officers contacted an elderly man on I-17 who told them he had been punched and thrown out of the vehicle in which he was riding.
The ninety-two year old man, unable to walk without the assistance of his walker, was assaulted and left on the interstate to care for himself. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and observation.
Jonathon Begay made statements that he hated his father, he wanted his father to die, and "tried to kill his father, I'm sorry".
Begay was arrested for vulnerable adult abuse and aggravated assault and booked into the Coconino County Jail.
