19-Year-old plows car into house, lies about itPosted: Updated:
MESA -- Police in Mesa believe a 19-year-old man crashed his car into a house and then lied about it to officers.
It happened near Dobson Road and Southern Avenue early Friday morning.
Investigators said the young man said the card was stolen at the time of the crash, even though he was behind the wheel.
Police said the man, whose name has not been released, was driving when he apparently fell asleep just before slamming into the house.
The men reportedly got out of the car and walked to a nearby 7-Eleven, where he called the police and told them his car was stolen.
Officers found out that that was not the case, and that the 19-year-old had indeed been behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
While there were people inside the house and the damage to the kitchen was extensive, no injuries were reported.
The driver is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident and possibly hit and run, as well as false reporting for claiming the car had been stolen.
